Coneflowers  Echinacea purpurea

It's the time of year I go coo coo for Coneflowers!  I used to keep this bed free of anything but the orange varieties.  I've become less of a purist these days and I'm starting to like it!  The offspring of the orange hybrids have come up pink and white.  I kind of like the diversity!

With temperatures predicted to be in the triple digits this coming week, I thought I'd take a few photos of one corner of the spring garden.  We've been blessed with rain this spring so everything is pretty lush.  I'm hoping it has prepared all the plants to say "bring it on" to the harsh summer heat.

Larkspur consolida

I planted Larkspur seeds several years ago.  They return every spring without fail.  This year has been a particularly good year for them.

Golden Groundsel Packera obvata and Purple Heart Tradescantia Pallida

Sometimes even lazy gardeners are rewarded!  I haven't had a chance to clean up the old seed heads of the Golden Groundsel that bloomed a couple of months ago.  The stems have taken on a reddish hue that contrast nicely with the green and the purple of the foliage that surrounds them.  I always have to remind myself to relax and let the garden do its own thing.  Here's proof!

Roses etc.

One nice thing about having a front yard garden is that neighbors often catch the same gardening bug.  My next door neighbor's Peggy Martin Rose, in the background, goes wild about the same time as some of the Roses in one of my front beds.  I think our Roses make good neighbors!

One of the earliest spring bloomers, Golden Groundsel, is in full glory the same time the Red Tip Photinias are covered with their fresh bright red foliage every year.  They make great bouquet companions so I brought them together another year.

Fall Bouquet - November 2012

I took this photo back in November but never posted it.

As you may have noticed, I've taken quite a break from blogging lately.  To be honest, I've taken a break from the garden as well.  It is in sad sad sad shape!  Did I say "sad sad sad?" I meant "sad sad sad sad sad!"  Warmer weather is already here and I'm starting to panic. Hopefully I will soon begin the garden RESTORATION.  I'm trying to finish up some updates inside the house so that I can once again devote myself 1000 percent to the garden.  Wish me luck!
