I'm a sucker for new plant varieties. I discovered this new Amaranthus when I saw it in the computer window and just had to have it! I planted the seeds in the spring and have enjoyed the 'dreadlocks' all spring and summer and now, fall.
I found your blog while searching for pictures of Love Lies Bleeding, specifically for the variety "Dreadlocks." Great pictures! Wish there were some way to contact you about using your picture in my article on Amaranthus caudatus for the Dave's Garden website.
Sandra, you can plant Dreadlocks in zone 5 (Illinois). Just be sure to locate it where it gets plenty of sun! I've grown it in central IL, and it was spectacular.

Great plant! Can you tell me the planting zones for it? I live in the chicago area. Thanks.
