Dale Chihuly at the Dallas Arboretum pt. I 

Last week I made it over to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens to see the Dale Chihuly glass sculptures on display.  Each and every piece was a visual delight.  They had to kick me out screaming and shouting, at closing time.  I took so many photos that I've decided to share them in parts.  This is part one, and there's lots more to come.

Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkopf' and Echeveria 'Black Prince'

Two of my favorite 'black' plants are these two succulents.  They aren't really black but they are very dark and close enough.

Mexican Feather Grass

I decided to let grass grow on the city owned street curb in front of my front garden. Grass yes, but not St. Augustine, or Bermuda, but rather Nassella tenuissima or more commonly known as Mexican Feather Grass. I started out with two or three plugs. They have seeded themselves nicely down the curb. Sedums and few wild flowers that popped up are also part of the mix. I may go super minimalist (for me) and remove everything but the grass. I think it makes a statement all by itself, especially when it is blowing in the wind!

Lily

Late last fall when garden centers were getting rid of plants from their inventory, I, on a whim, bought five plants with a tag that said 'Lily.'  I had no idea the variety, color, or type.  These were my first 'real' Lilies (Lilium) to purchase, so I admit I didn't  know an Asiatic from an Oriental or all the others.  I suspect though this is an Asiatic, from looking at images on the web.  Regardless, I couldn't be more pleased with the bloom.

Now, for those of you who feel bad for never planting your plant purchases, you are not alone.  All five plants have still not been planted and are blooming in their little plastic pots.  To be honest, I completely forgot I had them, and found them lying in one of the beds in the winter.  I figured they were dead.  As you can see, they are not.
