Bluebonnets - Lupinus texensis 

The wet winter has brought out the Bluebonnets in Texas this year. My spring garden has spots of Bluebonnets growing here and there, which have come up from dormant seeds from the past couple of years. I was delighted to see that a few of the Alamo Fire Bluebonnets popped up as well.

Plum Tree - Prunus

My twin brother, who lives in Colorado zone 5b, sent this beautiful photo of a Plum tree blooming in his family's yard. I can smell it all the way in Texas! WOW - right?

I acquired these Petunias last fall from a plant swap.  I planted them in pots around my conversation garden and then abandoned them all through the winter.  They remained semi-dormant until the days got longer and the temps got warmer, then they popped out with all these beautiful colors.  Sometimes the old garden favorites are still the best.

Traveling Lounger 2012

It's now time for a preview of the fourth incarnation of my Traveling Lounger.  This year I picked a color from Benjamin Moore called Fire and Ice.  It's still early in the season so there aren't a lot of plants around it yet.  I'll keep you posted as the season progresses.

Golden Groundsel Senicio aureus and Carolina Jasmine Gelsemium sempervirens

My back shed is awash with golden yellow this time of year.  The Golden Groundsel in the foreground blooms every year with the Jasmine.  I'd say the scene is a better antidepressant than most out there!

Leatherleaf Mahonia - Mahonia bealei , Camellia japonica 'Kramer's Supreme'

I'm not always the best planner.  A few years ago I planted these two shrubs near each other, way too near each other!  The Camellia is a verrrrrry slow grower and has taken some time to put on any substantial growth.  The Leatherleaf Mahonia has grown considerably faster and has almost reached its maximum height.  The Camellia has yet to reach one third of its maximum height.  When it does, I'm afraid the Mahonia will be out of site.  I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, but for now, I'm loving how they mingle together.
